In addition to the EDGE show I wrote about last week, opening May 6, I also have paintings hanging at Lulu’s at the Octagon, a cafe attached to the Museum of Art and History in downtown Santa Cruz.
This is a fabulous space, with large walls, good light, and a nice line of sight from across the room…perfect for paintings this size. Susan Hillhouse of the museum curates this space, and it was great working with her, Robbie Schoen and Marla Nova to select and hang the work. The show will be up until June 19th. Stop in and see it if you can, because my photo doesn’t do it justice!
You are so right the photo in your blog does not do justice to the work. I’ve been twice to look at them. LOVE the Sewing something painting. All three figures are very powerful. Although I really like them all. It’s obvious that you, (to me), have taken the time out to draw. I love how your paintings are able to express that. Very strong powerful work. I might even go buy a cup at the octagon and study them some more.
I am a fellow painter although no one knows me here. I live in the sticks. I’m just recently attempting to merge my figurative work with abstraction. Damn it’s not easy!
Let me know if you ever are doing a workshop.
Brava! to you, well done.
Dana
Wow, Dana, thanks for all the nice comments about my work. And, no, it’s not easy to merge figurative and abstraction. I don’t pretend to always get it right, either.
Enjoy your coffee at the Octagon!
